The Greater DC Diaper Bank supports vulnerable families in Greater DC by collaborating with distribution partners to provide essential baby and hygiene products and expanded access to critical services for families who need them the most. Our vision is a Greater DC community where all families have the capacity, agency, and opportunity to thrive.
As the largest diaper bank in the DC region and one of the largest nationwide, GDCDB enables babies and families to receive diapers, formula, baby food, period products, and other hygiene essentials through distribution partners across DC, Maryland, and Virginia, reaching households in 375 zip codes. Our programs uniquely address the needs of vulnerable families in Greater DC, where no other local organization provides diapers and hygiene items at our scale. Over the years, we’ve built a network of community partnerships across our service area, facilitating the distribution of millions of diapers and hygiene products to thousands of families annually. Since our founding in 2010, we’ve distributed over 50 million diapers.
GDCDB strives to responsibly manage essential resources and maximize their impact through efficient distribution. We recognize that diapers are just the beginning of what struggling families need. Comprehensive support requires access to food, healthcare, early childhood education, and housing services. Through 15 years of service, we’ve learned that addressing diaper needs requires a flexible and community-responsive approach. Our model has grown to be more inclusive, adapting to specific community needs and preferences. To expand access to poverty interventions, we work closely with integrated social service agencies, local governments, mutual aid organizations, and diaper need hubs.
