You know that old saying, “They go together like booze and diapers.”? Me neither, but here at DC Diaper Bank we’re trying to make it happen.
If you think that volunteerism and charitable giving have to be a chore, this may not be the organization for you. While we take our work with babies and families very seriously, we also realize that a little fun helps bring people together and makes the work go faster.
One of our favorite regular events is Wine/Whine Wednesday (every Wednesday from 6:30pm-8:30pm). This is a chance to leave the kids at home and spend some time with other grown-ups. Bring your own wine, bundle some diapers, and make some new friends. At the DC Diaper Bank warehouse, everyone knows your name, and everyone’s glad you came.
If you’re wondering where all your friends are hanging out, the answer just might be, at one of DC Diaper Bank’s cool events. Last month’s Hill Country Happy Hour was all about beer, BBQ, and babies – and it was a blast! There were great raffle prizes, like Green Hat Gin (are you seeing a pattern yet?). At our recent “Dining for Diapers” event at Silver Spring’s El Golfo, 20% of diners’ bills (margaritas included!) went to babies in need. It’s also been reported that the restaurant’s extra-special margaritas led to a DCDB Dance Off.
So go ahead – have a little fun with your giving! We’re looking for more events that bring families in need – and diapers – together in unexpected ways. Where would you like to see us next? Diaper Drive at a tailgate? Yes please. Farmers’ Markets talking baby food and diaper? Sounds good to us! Send us some more ideas for creative ways to get the word out and have some fun and maybe a glass of wine…
I believe it was Danny and Sandy who sang it best . . . “We go together like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong.” And booze and diapers.
